Disclaimer: It’s only my opinion, I don’t have many scientific sources about damage or how LLM actually works nowadays and can’t see the future. It’s more like my emotions and opinion about the topic that can be wrong than a political manifesto. So, keep it in mind. Also I only talk about LLM and gen AI usage in daily life and art/content, I don’t talk about technology itself. Like, if it’ll find a cure for cancer I won’t be mad lol.
Generative AI and LLM is a very big deal now. Sadly, it’s not fake hype like NFT was or niche technology like crypto currency now. It’s everywhere around us in 2026. From big companies to your neighbors use LLM on every day basis and it’s not going anywhere. You can say “hey, but this AI-boom is just a bubble, like dot com was!”. And, honestly, you’re right and I bet we will see collapse more or less. But where will you talk about that? In comments on grilledmint dot com. Or discussing on x dot com. Or send e-mail on gmail dot com. The Internet didn’t disappear after a burst, so will not AI.
To be honest, as long as I live I was dreaming about a button to “make an art”. To transfer my ideas directly on paper. Or about chatbots, that will answer not only phrases that they know but generate its own sentences. And in 2022, when technology started to grow, I was pretty excited and optimistic….for a very small amount of time. Because the moral questions start appearing quickly. What about people, who spend lives to make their style and skills valuable and who lost their jobs without any compensation because of machines parasiting on them without consent? How do we get new specialists if all low quality jobs, which were perfect for juniors, are now made by robots? How will the market react to this massive wave of fired workers? Why actually the most FUN jobs affected first? Shouldn’t robots do boring jobs like dragging boxes or something? And I am not even talking about ecology, because it’s not important for me personally…but yeah, it actually takes too much water and energy that it needs for those kinds of tasks, it’s not efficient.
Later, when the magic of the fact “machine creates stuff” was gone, it became obvious how low quality it actually is. We had problems with over-used styles and lack of creativity but with AI it’s even worse. Because the more data of this style it can consume the better result. I’ll say, the only experience I had with LLM myself was roleplay chatbots like character ai and similar. And I’ll be honest, it was fun at first. Until you start to notice how limited and un-natural it is.
For some time I actually blamed myself for these feelings. Like, yeah, I’m an artist, but I’m also a little bit of a tech guy, why am I not excited? Am I now an old man, who can’t accept the future? And, even though I accept that I am not flexible enough, I actually know the answer to the first one.
Why did I even love technology before?
Because it was accurate.
I loved to think that all bugs and errors in software are actually just human imperfections when we touch technology. Because it’s just too logical that we can’t predict everything. But hypothetically it’s possible to create perfect, efficient algorithms. But genAi and LLM are the opposite of that. It’s actually information bloat, it’s creating a lot of meaningless crap and can answer one same question differently. It’s like a regular human, but worse. Humans have institutes, authorities, social statuses. We can manage our trust from one source to another. A person can lie or make mistakes, but there are consequences. But LLM answers something like “Oops sorry I was wrong” if you ask it “are you really sure 2×2=4?”. Sure, it gets better by time. But it is not that their algorithms get smarter or more efficient. It’s because more stuff is consumed. It’s didn’t try to create something absolutely logical and alien to humans that will be better than them. It’s trying to think and learn how the human brain do it, with all cognitive distortions. And I hate it. Of course I simplify things and may be incorrect in some parts but I think you still can get my point.
So, do I have reasons don’t use LLM and genAI except as an annoyance? For image genAI it’s obvious – as an artist myself I know how harmful it is. For artists that were scraped AND for artists that use it. Because I have few artists that I liked before and I see how new of their arts are less interesting, less unique, less alive after they started to get assistance from AI. Even artists who use AI as reference get affected by bland style, fundamentally wrong anatomy (because it’s not builded, it’s just pretend to be accurate). And, honestly, it’s just awful to work with. The most important difference for me between generated images and human art is that you don’t notice the difference at first glance. But the longer you look at human art, the better it gets. With generated art – it gets uglier. Same for music, voice acting and other artistic mediums.
But with chat bots and more “ethical” LLM usages, the situation is more interesting. For example, a lot of people use chat GPT like faster google search. But I just can’t understand why I need to use it when I still can…google? The more time goes by the more “fake sites” that are written by AI so it’s harder and harder to find reliable sources but I still have this skill. Yes, it may take a little more time if I need something less trivial but for me it is better than getting hallucinations that I still need to check. Also I get mad when people say “I asked to chat GPT” and it’s a) the most obvious thing in the world that can be googled in a second b) laws of countries, medicine, stuff that OP knows nothing about or just niche topics where LLM is way easy to get mistakes and it’s dangerous to fail.
Okay, but what about learning stuff? Like foreign languages, translation or code assistants? Even though I think there can be situations where pros outweigh the cons, I still don’t want to try it because the fact of AI itself makes me annoyed because of how much it’s around me. And, for example for code, I personally don’t think that I know coding good enough to outsource tasks to AI. I prefer to struggle, spend time and make my own mistakes, but I’ll know any line of code that I wrote and it’s my problem to find an efficient way. Vibe-coding is often used in negative connotation because AI-assisted-code written by newbies is often bloated, has problems with security and is just hard to read. Usually I prefer to avoid softwares with “claude” assistance even sometimes it’s actually a senior coder who uses it just to make stuff faster. At least when it’s known, because there is already a lot of AI-assisted code around us. But what about chatting, roleplaying? Or maybe creating new ideas, isn’t AI perfect for that? Well, after attempting TTRPG solo (with oracle and spreadsheets, no LLM involved) I think I have enough creative power for my needs. And I’ll always prefer procedural generation if you know what I mean.
The other reason – I am afraid to get my brain lazy. I already noticed how social media shaped my mind, my attention span, my addiction to cheap attention. Even though I wasn’t actually addicted like my other friends, I usually have only two hours on my phone(except youtube, I have it a lot) and I stoped using those that made me upset and angry (twitter aka “x”) or addicted (instagram reels). I don’t even want to know how stupid I will be in a year or two if I outsource all tasks or questions to AI. Yes, I may be less efficient, less fast, less trendy and competitive. But I prefer it over possible damage to my brain or mentality. I really like when AI-boom compares radium-boom. The newly invented substance was added to toothpaste, cosmetics, and used to paint wristwatches, only to later discover the irreparable harm it caused to the body. I don’t say that LLM is dangerous but we should remember – it’s very new technology. We didn’t know yet how it’ll affect us later. It’s okay to be worried and I don’t think rejecting AI in everyday life it’s technophobic. At least now, in 2026.
Besides, don’t pretend that ALL inventions was cool, you know? We can’t imagine a world without, for example, oil. But in theory, the world could have taken a completely different path and avoided problems with global warming or plastic pollution. We can’t claim the world would was worse, because we wouldn’t regret the absence of something that would never have been invented. We were lucky that we didn’t yet invent something that destroyed us immediately haha….right?
Bad news for me and other people who don’t like gen AI taking over the world – we already lose. Good news – it doesn’t mean we should join. You know, GMO isn’t actually that bad but we have products that’s labeled “GMO free” because people are afraid and prefer to eat organic. And you know what? Good for them. Someone vegan and eating carmine isn’t ethical for them? Cool, here is your alternative product! So the same situation for content without AI. We should support people and studios who avoid gen AI tools if we want more of that in the future. We are not doomed yet: this year I watched TADC and played Mewgenics which were both new and didn’t have genAI content in them (at least visual assets but I assume Tyler didn’t vibe-code his part either). And we have other smaller or bigger titles. But what if you want to be really sure? Well, humanity already created so many films, books, games and other media before 2022 so it’s not possible to consume all. Start a hidden gem hunt or watch that anime that all of your friends recommended to you for years. If you don’t want to use LLM or watch generated content – you still can do it.
At least, it’s true for now. There are already jobs and companies where bosses force you to use it. Even I can’t say that I will be able to ignore this technology for the rest of my days. For example, it’s still possible to live without the internet. Heck, it’s still possible to live without electricity at all. But the world is different now, people assume you have a smartphone, cities shaped differently than centuries ago. If you live without internet or electricity your life will be limited and socially isolated. It’s possible that in the future AI will become truly unavoidable. Or truly impossible to say what is AI and what is not. So, I can’t say that I’ll avoid it forever. But I’ll do it as long as I can. Still, it makes me sad. All I know and love about the world is changing. It’s how our parents and grandparents felt, huh?
Okay, let me tell you something cheerful at the end. For example, do you want to create a game? But you can’t draw and can’t do good art. Well. Do bad art. Do bad music, bad code, but do it by yourself. You know, what’s my favorite manga? Mob Psycho 100. Because even if ONE has really low skill in art, the story is amazing, humor hilarious and characters are believable. So bad art doesn’t mean bad comics, same for a game. Or find another loser who can do art, music and code and give them your money that you saved from breakfasts. Or give them a motivational speech, even though it’s not the best way (but may work if they’re already your friend and trust you). Yes, it took more time, more money. It’ll not look AAA or smooth. But it’ll be noticeable over vibe-coded AI slop from other losers. And you’ll find your players. Players who respect your vision, your hard work. Same for other media. I don’t think we are over yet. Until we still able to create stuff with our hands we can call ourselves artists.
